The history focuses on the former Genoa Indian Industrial School that opened in 1884 and operated until it closed in 1934. It was the only federal government-run American Indian school in Nebraska.

 

In 1990, the Indian School Foundation was started, and it purchased the interpretive center to keep the culture and story of the Genoa school and others alive.
