As a multimedia reporter, a lot of my work went beyond written stories to making and editing video clips of my interviews, events and speakers. I also made graphics breaking down stories or reporting on the status of Iowa’s water quality.
I shot my own videos and often worked with a co-worker on editing. I either did my own editing or cut up clips for my co-worker to stitch together and add text to.

Graphics
The water quality graphics were a joint idea between me and my editor, and we started publishing them in 2021. Over time, they got more and more shares, sometimes reaching into the thousands. Sometimes I did all of the editing, and sometimes I compiled the list and forwarded it to the design team.

I also edited quote cards from interviews. These two graphics were posted on Iowa Starting Line’s social media accounts and accompanied the published story.

We also did graphics breakdowns of stories that we posted on social media for people who didn’t want to click on a link but were still interested in the story. Sometimes (like for the series below) I made the whole thing, but I also wrote scripts for the design team.

Here’s an example of a set I put together myself.

And I did a weekly series of pet adoption spotlights from a different Iowa shelter each week.
